Seasonal Gardener (Temporary Employment)
Salary: Hourly rate negotiable
Holker Hall is one of the best-loved stately homes in Britain.  Magnificently situated on the edge of Morecambe Bay, the Hall and Gardens are set in beautiful countryside framed by the Lakeland fells.  Every year numerous visitors are attracted to Holker by the 25 acres of immaculately kept gardens.

We are now seeking a part-time, casually employed, seasonal gardener to work with our existing team, on an ad-hoc basis.  The Gardens team strive to achieve consistently high levels of presentation of these world class gardens, working under the guidance of the Head Gardener.

The successful applicants must be highly motivated and have the ability to work to the same high level independently or as part of a team.  Additionally a willingness to adapt and improve existing skills and knowledge is necessary together with an enquiring mind.

Discretion and high professional standards are essential as are the need to be flexible, courteous and to have an eye for detail.  Holker Hall Gardens offer the scope to care for formal herbaceous plantings, topiary and box hedging, lawns, a unique collection of shrubs and trees and planters.  Other areas include woodlands, a flower meadow, kitchen garden and houseplants growing in glasshouses.

Seasonal Administration Assistant - Cartmel Racecourse
Salary: A competitive remuneration package will be offered.
Cartmel Racecourse stages competitive National Hunt Racing and also hosts some of the biggest picnics in Britain.  There is a full and exciting 2012 racing fixture list, with racing in June to coincide with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, July racing with a BBQ theme and the August Bank Holiday racing climax, with three race meets taking place.

The Cartmel racecourse team is a small but highly committed, dedicated team focused continually on ensuring that race-goers to Cartmel have a fantastic day out and all customers of the racecourse have a good experience.

For the 2012 season, Cartmel Racecourse requires a highly organised Administrative Assistant who can take and process customer orders and provide direct assistance to the Racecourse Managing Director, utilising their secretarial, administrative and customer orientated skills.  This role requires a disciplined, organised approach, excellent customer focused skills and a 'can-do' attitude, working within a dynamic business that presents fresh challenges each and every day.

This is a seasonal, full-time role, with employment commencing as soon as possible and likely to end during September 2012.  Some weekend working and Bank Holiday working is required.

Assistant Chef - Holker Cafe
Salary: To Be Agreed

The Holker Estate is one of the leading visitor attractions in Cumbria and is constantly striving to develop its services and improve standards for the benefit of its customers.  To achieve this, the Estate has made a significant business investment in its catering offer and elsewhere in recent years.

The food offer at Holker forms a vital part of the overall visitor experience.  It does, however, need to be constantly improved and developed in order to meet both rising customer expectations and the requirements of the wider Estate.  It is our ambition that Holker should become as well known for its good food and local produce as it is for its other attractions.

The post holder will work with the Catering Manager/Head Chef to achieve exceptionally high standards using fresh ingredients.

Admission Kiosk Team Member
Salary: To be agreed
We are looking for a new team member to join our small kiosk team at Holker Hall & Gardens for the 2012 season starting on 1st April 2012.

As our kiosk is very often the first port of call for new visitors to our site this position is key to providing the professional and friendly welcome that is typical of the Holker visitor experience.

The kiosk sells tickets and passes to individual and group travellers as well as providing information to visitors to help them make the most of their trip. Kiosk attendants reconcile the ticket machine and till on a daily basis and complete the electronic daily sales record.

Candidates will be expected to work on Sundays between April 1st and November 4th as well as every other Monday. ( 10.00am – 5pm) As we have a small team of attendants there may be the occasional possibility to swap rota days but this cannot be guaranteed.

Key attributes:
  • Numerate and confident with cash handling
  • Outgoing and friendly demeanour 
  • Smart appearance 
  • Flexible – during quieter periods Kiosk staff are sometimes asked to assist with other office tasks 
  • Works well in a team but also happy to work alone.
