Shorthorn Beef

The Estate has a long tradition in farming, both with in-hand farms and tenant farmers and had a renown prize winning Shorthorn herd in the 1800’s which was raised on the traditional Estate parkland.  Now, in the early part of this century we recognised a need to provide quiet grazers to share the traditional parkland with the deer herd.  This coupled with one of our tenant farmers already producing Shorthorns provided a perfect opportunity to reintroduce a quality Shorthorn herd to Holker.

The Shorthorn meat is dark, rich and full flavoured with natural marbling which therefore has a superior eating quality and this will soon be available through the Food Hall and on the menu at our Courtyard Café.  There are plans to develop sales by mail order shortly.
