Stachyurus Chinensis 'Magpie'

This rare deciduous large shrub can reach about 2-3 metres in height.

Purple, arching branches have stunning ovate-oblong to elliptic-oblong leaves which narrow into a long tapered point. These are dull-green with broad creamy-yellow margins splashed pale green and tinged with rose.

The spring flowers are primrose yellow in long, drooping racemes. Plant in fertile soil in full sun/semi-shade. Protect from first frosts until established. S. Chenensis orginated in Nepal and was introduced into England by Ernest Wilson in 1908. 'Magpie' originated in Hillier's Nurseries in approximately 1945.
