Queen Mary's Bedroom

Queen Mary stayed in this room when she visited Holker in 1937, and the redecoration has remained true to the original style. The curtains, chair covers and bed-hangings are of a William Morris design, and glass candlesticks on the dressing table, which have been converted to electric light, are Venetian. The wash-stand set with its unusual fish design is Minton. The ornate Edwardian looking- glass over the mantelpiece has the initials M.C. within the design and is presumed to have been a gift to Lady Moyra Cavendish, grandmother of the present owner. The furniture includes  three George I gilded armchairs, an eighteenth-century Italian commode and an early nineteenth-century armoire from Normandy.
