We are located in Cark-in-Cartmel, which is approximately 2 miles from Grange-over-Sands. Access is easy via coach and Holker Hall is well signposted from the M6 along the A590.
On arrival at Holker you will be welcomed by a Guide and will have an opportunity for children to visit the toilets before commencing their visit. Group leaders will also be able to deposit packed lunches so that these need not be carried around with you all day. Generally we try to ensure that only one School visits us at any one time at Holker. This means you will have full use of all of our facilities and the individual attention of our Guides.
We have a range of facilities that will enable your visit to be as comfortable and productive as possible, these include wet weather facilities for groups of upto 60 children, an outdoor picnic area, a covered area for picnics, wet weather facilities for learning, first aiders throughout the site, meal voucher for the coach driver, opportunities to study away from members of the general public, specific times for groups of School children to visit the Shop, and additional learning aids for your return to the School Room.
You will also find that the majority of our site is accessible to those with disabilities. Should you have any specific requirements please contact our Administration Office.
In the event of inclement weather conditions your days activities will be rearranged in consultation with yourselves, and will take place within the Education Room and a semi-covered area (Subject to availability).
We do not set a maximum number of school children as this depends on the programmes that you are following. Groups between 30 and 60 work best (minimum numbers 20). Large schools often spread the number of pupils visiting over successive dates. We recommend that groups of up to 25 work best for the tours, working on a rotation system for larger schools. If your requirements are outside these numbers we would be happy to discuss with you the options available to you to make the most of your visit.
If you feel you would like to make a preview visit with a colleague, or indeed with your own children, then please contact us for an advance pass. This will give you access on any one day when we are open and will give you a chance to trial any activities or develop any of your own worksheets should you wish to.
All you need to do is phone, fax or email to request a School Booking Form which asks for essential information about yourself and the School. Simply complete this information in full and post or fax it back to The Booking Office at Holker Hall at the address on the bottom of the form. We will acknowledge receipt of your form and liaise with you over your visit.
We ask for payment on arrival and a receipt will be given in exchange.
