They are a recently formed local group of the Basketmakers' Association, all weavers of baskets or seating, working together to keep the traditional crafts alive.
During the Holker Garden Festival they will be demonstrating their craft at their stall in the Made in Cumbria Craft Hall AND running children's workshops in the Holker Tipi’s.
Look out for the boards by the stalls and outside the Holker Tipi’s for times of demonstrations.
Baskets makers will be making baskets, plant supports, sculptures- watch the progress and find out all about the materials used. See the range of items they can weave in willow and get a lovely basket to use in the garden. Come and find out about getting that old chair re-seated.
Commissions taken for bespoke items, just pop along and have a chat with them.
Have a go in the craft tent on Friday using cane and weave an animal with willow on the Saturday and Sunday.
The Ilex Bar & BrasserieOpen for lunches - including a very special Sunday lunch -
This weekend’s damp weather didn’t affect the fiery fun at Holker with a full house for the chilli eating competitions hosted by Darth Naga. A packed Courtyard watched on as 10 competitors (on each day) took part in the lively competition. Saturday’s competition was the most entertaining yet with Darth commenting it was best one he had ever hosted - humorous contestants were encouraged by the lively crowd - with Jordan from Barrow taking centre stage. Joint winners took the trophy on Saturday and Ed Duffy was crowned Sunday’s winner after reaching around 250,000 scovilles.
