Holker Hall is well known for its annual Garden Festival but this September there will be a new gardening event to look forward to. Flower Power Fairs will be bringing a huge selection of quality plants grown by some of the very best Northern plant specialists and growers to this wonderful setting. The fair takes place on Sunday 1 September near to the Courtyard Café Restaurant and Holker Gift Shop and will be open from 11am-4pm.
Flower Power Fairs, established over the past 6 years, and acknowledged as bringing together a superb collection of top plant specialists, nurseries and growers to the fairs, will be bringing her fair to the magnificent Holker Hall. Following on from her successful May event at Kirklington Hall, near Carlisle, Judy will be holding her event beside the Café/Restaurant near the Gardens.
“All the nurseries grow their own plants and bring you a huge diversity of plants, always of the best quality and I hand pick each participant for their high standards, selection of plants on sale and presentation.” Says organiser, Judy Popley. “Autumn is the ideal time to be planning your gardens, and there will be plants for all seasons from late summer colour, autumn tints, winter foliage and structure plants through to the promise of Spring with spring bulbs and early flowering plants.” This year Flower Power is promoting bee, butterfly and insect friendly plants as well as encouraging gardeners to Buy British, Buy Local. “We need to support these local nurseries or we shall lose them.”
Admission to the plant fair will be free and there will also be a Local Producers' Market within the Courtyard.

This weekend’s damp weather didn’t affect the fiery fun at Holker with a full house for the chilli eating competitions hosted by Darth Naga. A packed Courtyard watched on as 10 competitors (on each day) took part in the lively competition. Saturday’s competition was the most entertaining yet with Darth commenting it was best one he had ever hosted - humorous contestants were encouraged by the lively crowd - with Jordan from Barrow taking centre stage. Joint winners took the trophy on Saturday and Ed Duffy was crowned Sunday’s winner after reaching around 250,000 scovilles.
