South Lakes FreeRider to call at Holker again this season
Visit Holker Hall & Gardens using the free bus service which will enable visitors to travel around the area’s most prominent attractions with ease.
A group of Cumbrian businesses has collaborated for a second year to run a free bus service which will enable visitors to travel around the area’s most prominent attractions with ease. Now in its second year it has been extended to include a link to Ulverston.
The South Lakes FreeRider will run Monday to Friday from the 23rd of July to the 31st
August and is available to all.
The service is the result of a collaboration between Windermere Lake Cruises, Lakeland Motor Museum, Holker Hall, Ducky’s Farm Park, Cartmel Traders, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Haven Holiday Park and Cartmel Village Stores, Rusland Pool Hotel, Lakeside Hotel and the Ulverston traders association who have joined together to implement and fund a great way to get around.
South Lakes FreeRider will offer shuttles each day from 9.15 am onwards, each stopping to collect and drop off visitors at participating businesses.
Sarah Ross, Head of Visitor Services for Holker Hall said:
“The public sector can no longer afford to subsidise services such as these so we have taken matters into our own hands to implement something which is going to be highly beneficial for the whole South Lakes area. In the first year of its operation last year we carried over 3,000 passengers on this service – reducing independent journeys of course and hopefully giving visitors to the area the chance to sample a variety of great locations.
“Accommodation providers are working with attractions, competitors with competitors and the result is a creative solution to increase our visitor numbers and support the tourism industry which is so vital to the Lake District. We’re much stronger when we work together.”
