Welcome to Holker Hall & Gardens

Blue Himalayan Poppy inspires a new look for the Holker Garden Festival!

Surely there can be no better place to take creative inspiration than from your very own garden?  As the Holker Garden Festival reaches its 22nd year an unusual and striking variety of poppy, found within the festival’s horticultural setting, has inspired a new look for this year’s event.

Meconopsis betonicifolia, otherwise known as the Blue Himalayan Poppy is a deciduous herbaceous perennial; a delight of beautiful sky blue poppies which emerge over six weeks from late spring to early summer.  This short lived, almost magical plant has been personally chosen by the Cavendish family to take pride of place across the new festival branding.  Lord Cavendish comments ‘There is a wonderful simplicity about the Blue Himalayan Poppy.  It is a brilliant addition to any garden, large or small.’

Jillian Rouse, Festival Manager comments “It’s very important to us to keep the garden festival fresh, new and inviting for exhibitors and visitors year on year.  We are a garden festival through and through; celebrating and showcasing the delights of horticulture in every way we can.  The new look branding allows us to shout this loud and clear, as well as ensuring we stand out from the crowd across a busy summer calendar of Cumbrian events.  As the festival is surrounded by 25 acres of part woodland and part formal gardens, it seems only fitting that the new festival logo should showcase a flower from within the grounds of Holker.”

The Holker Gardens are open to the public during the festival, which takes place from Friday 30th May to Sunday 1st June 2014, and both the Cavendish family and the festival team encourage visitors to take some time out of their day at the show to explore for themselves.  Jillian Rouse adds “During all the hustle and bustle of the festival, it’s quite nice to take some time out with a walk around the gardens.  You may even spot our Himalayan Poppies on your travels.”

The Holker Garden Festival showcases the very best of gardening, countryside, food and crafts.  A three day summer spectacle taking place from Friday 30th May to Sunday 1st June 2014 in the grounds of Holker Hall in Cark-in-Cartmel, Cumbria.  For more information or to buy advance tickets visit the website at www.holkerfestival.co.uk or call 015395 58838.  Opening times are from 10.00am to 5.30pm.
