Keen gardeners can explore the Grand Floral Marquee with its spectacular floral exhibits, rare blooms and fragrant aromas.  Take a stroll around the Holker Show Gardens, designed and built to this year’s theme of ‘Gardening Through the Generations’ and pick up some creative landscaping and planting inspiration, or visit the Garden Roadshow (NEW for 2016) taking place in the Holker Garden Theatre and stock up on useful gardening tips and tricks from the experts.

There will be family entertainment all round, with a busy schedule in the live arena including, live action packed entertainment from The Horsemen of the Knight – Jousting, and Terrier Racing.  Enjoy some old fashioned fun on the 50ft Helter Skelter and NEW for 2016 – the traditional Victorian Swing Boats.  (Don’t forget children under 16 go free!)

Foodies can discover all kinds of tasty treats, including some of Cumbria’s famous artisan produce – Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, Cartmel Cheeses and Unsworth’s Brewery.  Grab a pot of strawberries and cream as you wander the showground, enjoy a hearty hog roast, or sit down for a traditional afternoon tea in the Festival restaurant.

Full house for popular chilli eating competition

This weekend’s damp weather didn’t affect the fiery fun at Holker with a full house for the chilli eating competitions hosted by Darth Naga.  A packed Courtyard watched on as 10 competitors (on each day) took part in the lively competition.   Saturday’s competition was the most entertaining yet with Darth commenting it was best one he had ever hosted - humorous contestants were encouraged by the lively crowd - with Jordan from Barrow taking centre stage.  Joint winners took the trophy on Saturday and Ed Duffy was crowned Sunday’s winner after reaching around 250,000 scovilles.
