A Birds Eye View of Pagan Grove

Our new excavation project Pagan Grove is now well underway and planting is due to start soon. Our recent aerial shots show the full impact and potential of the project.

Our new excavation project Pagan Grove is now well underway. The main excavation is complete and the planting up is due to start shortly.

Our Head Gardener Yvonne Cannon is very excited about the project and says

"I am planting around 105, 000 spring and autumn bulbs. As the turfing rolls across the site I scatter the bulbs in the topsoil. The turf is then laid over them. It’s a fast and efficient way of planting this amount of bulbs and instantly protects them from the hungry squirrels.

Rarely does a Head Gardener have the opportunity to work on such a creative project. "

You can see from recent aerial shots of the site that Pagan Grove will make a big impact in the Holker Gardens.

Full house for popular chilli eating competition

This weekend’s damp weather didn’t affect the fiery fun at Holker with a full house for the chilli eating competitions hosted by Darth Naga.  A packed Courtyard watched on as 10 competitors (on each day) took part in the lively competition.   Saturday’s competition was the most entertaining yet with Darth commenting it was best one he had ever hosted - humorous contestants were encouraged by the lively crowd - with Jordan from Barrow taking centre stage.  Joint winners took the trophy on Saturday and Ed Duffy was crowned Sunday’s winner after reaching around 250,000 scovilles.
