Holker Hall Goes Wild at Roudsea Nature Reserve

This summer Holker Hall & Gardens have teamed up with the Natural England team at Roudsea Woods & Mosses National Nature Reserve to give families the opportunity to Go Wild in the Woods!

This summer Holker Hall & Gardens have teamed up with the Natural England team at Roudsea Woods & Mosses National Nature Reserve to give families the opportunity to Go Wild in the Woods!

The Go Wild in the Woods! family wildlife safaris set off from Holker and take families down to the nature reserve at Hatherthwaite to hunt for bugs and beasties.

Knowledgeable staff from Natural England are on hand to guide families around the nature reserve, and there are plenty of wild activities to get involved with. Have a go at making a smelly cocktail, play ‘Bog-bingo’, listen for dormice snoring and get close to some of our countries most ancient and magical trees!

Transport to and from the nature reserve is provided from Holker Hall. The walk itself is easy-going and no more than 1 mile long, with plenty of stops to take in the scenery and wildlife.

The final Safari this summer will depart from Holker Hall at 12.30pm on Thursday the 1st of September and drop off back at Holker at around 3.30pm. Safaris cost £1.50 per person, payable on the day at the ticket kiosk. Pre-booking is recommended (015395 58328). Find out more in our events section.

Full house for popular chilli eating competition

This weekend’s damp weather didn’t affect the fiery fun at Holker with a full house for the chilli eating competitions hosted by Darth Naga.  A packed Courtyard watched on as 10 competitors (on each day) took part in the lively competition.   Saturday’s competition was the most entertaining yet with Darth commenting it was best one he had ever hosted - humorous contestants were encouraged by the lively crowd - with Jordan from Barrow taking centre stage.  Joint winners took the trophy on Saturday and Ed Duffy was crowned Sunday’s winner after reaching around 250,000 scovilles.
