After weeks of preparation the big day finally arrived and Royal Wedding fever swept through Holker, with over 1,000 visitors gathering at Holker to celebrate.
Gates opened at 10.30 am and by coach, car, bike and on foot, well wishers filled the grounds of Holker. Tickets to the special, Courtyard Marquee sold out ahead of the day with a waiting list put in place for any last minute availability. Sarah Ross, Head of Visitor Services at Holker comments; "We were still taking calls for tickets late on Thursday and were absolutely delighted with attendance on the day. We knew that Holker would be the perfect setting for such an important event and wanted to give people the chance to celebrate and make the day a memorable one."
Visitors were treated to a patriotic day of fun with champagne brunch and afternoon tea for those with tickets to the Marquee. After much speculation about the weather, the rain stayed away and many chose to soak up the atmosphere with a picnic in front of the big screen, making sure they got the best spot for when the ceremony began.
Wedding fever continued through to the Holker Food Hall and Gift Shop with the latter virtually 'selling out' of commemorative mugs!
Sarah Ross adds; "The enthusiasm of everyone on the day was wonderful to see, we all had great fun. People have already shared some of their photos from the day on our Facebook page and I would like to encourage people to continue to do so - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Holker-Hall-Gardens/306858485572?ref=ts."

The Ilex Bar & BrasserieOpen for lunches - including a very special Sunday lunch -
This weekend’s damp weather didn’t affect the fiery fun at Holker with a full house for the chilli eating competitions hosted by Darth Naga. A packed Courtyard watched on as 10 competitors (on each day) took part in the lively competition. Saturday’s competition was the most entertaining yet with Darth commenting it was best one he had ever hosted - humorous contestants were encouraged by the lively crowd - with Jordan from Barrow taking centre stage. Joint winners took the trophy on Saturday and Ed Duffy was crowned Sunday’s winner after reaching around 250,000 scovilles.
