Holker Hall has completed a project to improve and enhance the existing play area, and to create a lovely new undercover picnic area, enabling families to literally "park, picnic and play" for no extra cost.
To create more space, Holker's woodsman cleared away untidy undergrowth, leaving a lovely open area with an authentic woodland character. To create the impression of a forest den, Holker commissioned a local joiner to design and build a woodland platform nestled between the trees, perfect for firing up young imaginations.
The Day family from Preston (pictured) were lucky winners of a recent competition in BBC CountryFile Magazine to win a VIP day out at Holker Hall and were amongst the first to try out the new playground.
For younger children new equipment was ordered and installed including the new balance beams, stepping stones, rocking boat and play sand planter. Together with a fresh carpet of bark chippings expertly laid by Holker's grounds men and some woodland friends hiding in the bushes, the playground is now a welcoming area combining natural features with fun equipment, suitable for children aged up to 12 years.
To complement the play area, the adjacent old undercover floor maze has been transformed into an undercover picnic area for families to enjoy. With additional seating near the playground there is a picnic area to suit all weather conditions!
The play and picnic areas are open daily throughout the season from 10.30am - 5.30pm. Parking is free. For more information on Holker Hall call 015395 58328 or visit www.holker.co.uk.
