New Head Gardener
Holker Hall & Gardens at Cark-in-Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands opens to visitors on 20th March 2016.New head-gardener Glyn Sherratt will be heading up the garden team responsible for the 25acres of immaculately kept gardens and wider 200-acre Parkland.Glyn joins Holker from Gatton Park in Surrey where he oversaw the restoration of the historic park and gardens.
With over 20-years horticultural experience including studying at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, Glyn brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and enthusiasm to the role.
Glyn comments, “I was drawn to Holker by its horticultural reputation and the exciting collection of unusualtrees and shrubs which the Cavendish family have collected over the years.The gardens are constantly evolving as new plantings are made or new ideas are born and I am greatly looking forward to helping the family develop their garden further for their own enjoyment and the benefit of our visitors”.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Glyn and enjoy a guided tour of the gardens followed by afternoon tea at the new “˜Tour and Tea with the Head Gardener’ events taking place on 20th April and 13th July (pre-booking essential).
Other events taking place on the Estate for the first time include an inspirational Art Market 1st May and BBC Antiques Roadshow 6th July.
The full events programme hops into action at Easter with children’s activities running 25th to 28th March.The popular Plant Fair runs alongside the Food Market on Sunday 17th April.In June the spectacular Holker Garden Festival – a celebration of the very best of gardening, countryside, food and crafts – takes place in the ancient deer park 3rd to 5th June, things hot up for Chilli Fest 10th & 11th September and the festive Winter Market returns 5th & 6th November.
And the good news doesn’t stop there – a new Brasserie is due to open late spring and Holker Hall is now available for weddings.

2016 season open dates are from 20th March to 30th October, Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays.The Hall opens 11am to 4pm, Gardens open 10.30am to 5pm and the cafÃ©, gift shop and food hall open from 10.30am to 5pm.
In addition, the cafÃ©, gift shop and food hall are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4th March 10.30am to 4pm.
Hall & Garden tickets are priced at £12.00 per adult with under 16’s free when accompanied by an adult. Free parking and free entry to grounds and picnic areas, adventure playground, CafÃ©, Gift Shop and Food Hall.
