The Holker Garden Festival welcomes new sponsor – Sanlam Private Wealth
Here we meet James Bardner, head of the company’s Kirkby Lonsdale office, who will be attending his very first Holker Garden Festival. He joined the company in January 2014 as a Senior Investment Manager and took up his current role in October 2015.
James has over 25 years experience in the investment management industry, having been a Director at Coutts, Vice President at Barclays Wealth and Regional Centre Head of Gerrard Investment Management looking after portfolios for clients, trusts and charities.
In taking the positon at Sanlam, James has opted for a change in lifestyle. Having spent many years living and working in busy city centre Manchester, he now enjoys the country life in his new home overlooking Ingleborough, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
He and his partner Rebecca have a large garden with a variety of fruit trees, a modest vegetable garden and even a small brood of hens. They still consider themselves garden novices but they love growing their own produce and are slowly becoming more accomplished.
Autumn is a busy time as they harvest all their fruit, and Rebecca, as a keen cook, makes a wide range of jams, jellies and chutneys. James’s damson gin and blackberry vodka are also proving very popular!
James says that they have been lucky to inherit an established garden with a wide range of evergreen shrubs and perennials but would in time, and with a little more experience, like to add their own touch to the garden.
Being relatively new to the area, James had little previous knowledge of the festival but now he is very excited that Sanlam is one of this year’s sponsors. “It should be a great event and I’m really looking forward to picking up some tips and new design ideas during the event” comments James.
