Magical Easter weekend draws record crowds to Holker

VISITORS flooded through the gates of one of south Cumbria’s most popular visitor attractions as glorious weather made for a fantastic bank holiday weekend.

Crowds of people took advantage of a series of events at Holker Hall and Gardens in Cark, with Easter-themed activities and a plant fair stealing the show.

The attraction’s team said the long weekend was one of the busiest on record – and they are now looking ahead to the Spring Fair which will be held next month.

General manager, Heather Creasey, said: “The weather was wonderful and the gardens were an absolute delight. Spring has arrived in style and there are splashes of colour everywhere.

“We were delighted with the number of guests who visited over the course of the bank holiday weekend. The courtyard was bustling, the cafe and Ilex were brimming with people enjoying a bite to eat and it was lovely to see so many visitors enjoying themselves in the gardens.”

The weekend started with an Alice in Wonderland themed Easter performance which was a sell-out.  An Easter egg treasure hunt around the gardens proved to be hugely popular, while Mad Hatter activities captured the imagination of younger guests.

Horticulturalists got the chance to stock up on spring blooms, shrubs and summer flowers at a plant fair held on easer Sunday, while foodies got the chance to stock up on the best of artisan produce from across the north west at a food market.

Heather added: “It was a fantastic four days and got the season off to a great start. We have plenty planned over the coming weeks and months and look forward to welcoming guests through the gates again.

Holker Hall and Gardens are open Wednesday to Sunday every week. The next major event will be the Spring Fair from Saturday, May 4 until Monday, May 6.
