Some might say it’s a little quirky to hold onto every greetings card received, but it’s really not all that unusual. We might not keep every single card, but many of us hold onto the really special ones, the ones with heartfelt messages that we just can’t bare to throw away or the ones that remind us of those important occasions.

Illustrated greetings cards have been exchanged for many many years, since the 15th century in fact.  From birthdays to anniversaries and valentines to simply saying hello, greetings cards are sent for a whole range of reasons and occasions. Whatever it may be, there’s no doubt that carefully choosing a card for someone special or receiving a heartfelt written card with a beautiful image on the front feels really very special. Perhaps, more than ever, as we live in a world of emails and text messages, exchanging hand written messages in a specially selected greetings card, evokes a stronger sense of sincerity and emotion.

It can be said that cards allow you to express your feelings in a way that a present can’t. No matter how grand or extravagant, a present can’t describe how much love a person, how much they mean to you, or how much you’ve enjoyed working with them.

Here in the Holker Gift Shop we’ve really extended our greetings card selection this season, and it seems that the joy of exchanging greetings cards extends to selecting cards for sale in the shop. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed discovering new artists through the selection of greetings cards as well as choosing new designs from artists we’ve supported for some time. Some of our favorites include cards designed by Laura Stoddart, Hillberry Cards, Bob Sutcliffe, Moon Gazer Cards, By Tilly, and many more. Next time you’re looking for a card to send to a special someone, we might just have the perfect one.
