Beginners’ Watercolour Workshop

Come and experiment with watercolours in the beautiful, blooming surroundings of Holker Hall’s gardens. This friendly beginners’ workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to explore watercolour painting in an outdoor setting, with no prior experience required.
During the session, you will learn how to create atmospheric and expressive watercolour paintings inspired by the landscape around you. You will gain confidence in mixing colour palettes, building layers of colour, and using experimental mark-making techniques to bring energy and movement to your work. You’ll also explore adding detail and definition using pen, pencil, and wash.
Basic materials will be provided, including watercolour paints, brushes, watercolour paper, water-soluble crayons, and graphite. However, if you have your own favourite materials, please feel free to bring them along.
About Your Tutor
Flora deBechi is a practising multidisciplinary artist and Art & Design lecturer at Kendal College. Originally trained in Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art, she also holds an MA and PGCert from GSA. Flora has completed residencies and commissions both nationally and internationally, developing a diverse and expansive creative practice.
Watercolour has remained a constant throughout her career, providing a means to observe, record, and respond to the landscapes, places, and experiences that inspire her work.
