Cartmel Racecourse

Cartmel Racecourse

Racing has been taking place at Cartmel since 1856. In 1925 the racing became more formalised and adhered to the National Hunt Races. The racing takes place in Cartmel Park adjoining the village, set against the backdrop of the beautiful English Lake District. Cartmel Races rekindles the spirit of the original steeplechases, attracting large crowds who gather within the centre of the racecourse for picnics, parties and a flutter on the horses.

Cartmel Racecourse hosts nine racing fixtures per year, commencing on the traditional Whit Monday Holiday at the end of May. A further eight race fixtures take place over the summer months culminating in spectacular style on the last bank holiday of August. The two public enclosures and Grandstand offer a great variety of viewing and dining options, from relaxed picnics to fine dining in the Louis Roederer Restaurant. ‘A day at Cartmel Races’ also presents the perfect way to entertain clients or staff, and there are a number of corporate hospitality packages available to suit all budgets and requirements.

Outside of the racing calendar, the iconic Cartmel Racecourse becomes a splendid venue for a range of corporate and social events and functions. As a licensed wedding venue, Cartmel Racecourse provides a truly unique setting for a wedding celebration, complete with the professional services of our on-site wedding manager and high quality on-site caterers. Located just 20 minutes from the M6 motorway, and surrounded by picturesque parkland, the Racecourse is also regularly used by local clubs and associations for open-air events, rallies and meetings.
